Azure Dynamics Selects Cobasys NiMHax 336-70 Nickel Metal Hydride Battery Packs for Hybrid Electric Vehicles

TROY, MI, November 1, 2004 — Cobasys, a key supplier of advanced Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery systems, and Azure Dynamics Corporation, a leader in the supply of advanced hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) technology, are cooperating on the development of HEV's using NiMH battery packs for the postal and package delivery fleet markets. Azure currently has a contract with Purolator for the production of up to 2,000 fleet vehicles. Azure is also working with Canada Post, London Taxis International, Leyland Product Development, Renault Trucks UK and the United States Postal Service.

Cobasys will supply its powerful, light weight, compact NiMHax® 336-70 battery system for this Purolator application along with installation and technical support for the production of hybrid vehicles. "We're delighted to be working in close cooperation with Azure Dynamics because of their innovative technology and expertise in this emerging market" stated Scott Lindholm, Cobasys vice president of sales.

Eric Johnson, Cobasys transportation sales manager commented, "the liquid cooled NiMHax® 336-70 is designed to be a fully integrated plug and play battery pack system packaged for easy installation into hybrid electric vehicles. Cobasys uses a full systems approach when designing battery systems for integration into vehicles." All aspects of a complete battery system are considered, allowing the vehicle integrator to focus on the vehicle application. This includes mechanical packaging, wiring, battery management electronics, communications interface and thermal systems.
