Theo Van Gogh [Vincent's brother's great grandson]. Check out the painting. images.google.com

This is what waits for all of us. First they came for Salman Rushdie, then they came for Daniel Pearl, now they've got Theo Van Gogh. When is your turn?

Kneel in the right direction with the mob when instructed and you'll be okay. Don't say anything that offends them.

PS: Though maybe he was shot by a common thief or nobody of consequence. Yeah, right. Oh, here's the information. What a surprise, it's a male Moslem from Morocco. <Police arrested a suspect, who is 26 and has Dutch and Moroccan passports, after a shootout during which a bystander was injured, Amsterdam Chief Prosecutor Leo de Wit said. The suspect was shot in the leg and is in hospital, Vroegland said.

Van Gogh received death threats after the August broadcast on Dutch national TV of his film ``Submission,'' made with Member of Parliament Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the broadcaster NOS said. The filmmaker last month completed a movie about the May 2002 assassination of Pim Fortuyn, a Dutch politician whose popularity rested partly on opposition to illegal immigrants.

``The climate is hardening, which is worrying,'' Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said at a press conference broadcast by Dutch TV. ``On a day like this, one has to think back of the murder of Pim Fortuyn. One can disagree in a democracy, but this fills me with horror.''

Fortuyn himself had condemned the government for permitting immigration from predominantly Muslim countries, including Morocco. He was murdered by Volkert van der Graaf, a Dutchman who identified himself in court as an animal-rights activist.

And, judging by "Almond Blossoms", it looks as though Vincent discovered chaos theory and fractals long before they were fashionable.
