The real problem with the US electoral system way predates the Bushies.

To wit: WHY IS ELECTION DAY NOT A NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN THE US AS IT IS IN MOST OTHER ADVANCED DEMOCRACIES.?

The powers that be in this country have been doing their best to keep segments of the population from voting for generations. I

If election day were a national holiday, it would be much easier for poor and working class people to vote. And that would spell electoral disaster for the Republicans IMHO.
