Election Problems Means Voting Extension for Some
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Voting is supposed to stop at 8:00 Tuesday night but several polling places in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties will stay open an extra hour for voters.

At the Heights Murray Elementary School in Wilkes-Barre there are three separate precincts voting. The third ward second district will remain open until 9:00 p.m., one hour later than normal. Election officials said the problem started Tuesday morning when an election judge was not able to show up. A backup judge was not called until 7:30 a.m. and did not make it to the polling place until after 8:00 a.m.

An emergency application for relief was filed in Luzerne County court to extend polling at that one precinct.

In Lackawanna County two voting places will extend hours because of problems. The polling place on Gravity Place in Olyphant will remain open until 9:07 p.m. because a machine problems stalled voting earlier in the day and the County Housing Authority in Dickson City will be open until 8:40 p.m. That polling place opened late because an election judge showed up late Tuesday morning.
