Searle, let me say or acknowledge that some of the most dire predictions did not materialize, naimly that Osama was being held somewhere, only to be presented sometime just before the election. Or the fake finding of WMDs in Iraq.

Rightly or wrongly, Americans will decide, and there are a lot of thoughtful Americans still, and democracy seems to be working.

Unfortunately, history is replete with instances where the population was on the wrong side, and I don't really have any faith in the phrase "the electorate is always right".

I mostly agree with your sentiments regarding who ultimately wins, and although it may make some difference, I doubt if the big ship will or can be turned in any case. Unfortunately, we will be left speculation alone.
