Phil > although it may make some difference, I doubt if the big ship will or can be turned in any case
Sure, but to get rid of the present "steersman" will be a statement of intent and a display of courage by the American people who, despite intimidation, terrorism, end-of-the-world prophesies etc etc, will show they are prepared to stand up, just like the Spanish people did, and say enough is enough.
This is not to say that Kerry can or will be able to rectify many of the existing problems -- the economy, debt, balance of payments, export of jobs, healthcare of the poor, the Iraq quagmire and the Israel/Palestine impasse come to mind. But I'm sure the world at large will be more kindly disposed to him than to W and will therefore be more likely to help rather than hinder, which is certainly the case at the moment. In fact, I'm sure if he wins there will be celebrations in every country.
Anyway, the results up to now seem to indicate that Kerry is doing well and far better than one had been led to believe was possible. All strength to him. |
