Yes, we are self-governing but do we need our government to legislate what one's morality should be? The courts have been a stop gap when this type of legislation gets introduced.

Why should the citizens of your scenario care what's going on behind closed doors at the Nude Dancing and Massage parlor if it's all being conducted "legally"?

The citizens did not condone the "sleazy conduct" but does it actually affect what is happening across the street at the "Cultural Center"?

As our country has grown, so has the diversity of our population. If we allow one religious group to force it's views on all other religions, simply because they have the majority of voters, we will lose the main ingredient which makes our country unique and powerful. That ingredient is religious freedom and/or tolerance of other's views. If we allow an intolerant government to legislate their ideas and morals on the rest of society, you can kiss goodbye to this great nation as eventually the segment of society that gets the brunt of this injustice will eventually revolt.

(ps. I'm not saying this will happen under GWB...)
