<In fact, our constitution precludes the mixing of state and religious business, even the praying of the Lord's Prayer in schools which you apparently believe takes place here--it doesn't because it is illegal.>
C2, I know that nonsense isn't allowed in the public USA institutions, but give them a chance and they'll find it constitutional to do so.
Our parliament still begins with a prayer! So do local body council meetings [some of them anyway].
<There is simply no way to compare so-called religious extremism in the US and the kind of nuttery that drives jets into high rises.>
Oh, I don't know about that. Sure, Osama was more spectacular, and had unbelievable success in one instance, but due to the lack of follow up, I'd say you can stick a fork in him. He's had his day. But I had my fingers crossed in the lead up to the election. Touch wood.
David Koresh, Jim Jones, Heaven's Gate, Moonies, Google is full of it:
apologeticsindex.org <'Our nation is chosen by God and commissioned by history to be a model to the world,' Lieberman told the annual convention of B'nai B'rith late last month.
Is that so? Did God choose slavery, which persisted in this country long after it was outlawed elsewhere? Did God choose to nearly eradicate the American Indian? Did God choose to incarcerate the Japanese during World War II? Where was God when blacks were being lynched and bigots planted bombs in southern churches, killing innocent little girls? Are these the models God wanted for the rest of the world?
Lieberman's statement is preposterously false and lacks humility. In these and other statements, he and like-minded politicians not only have had God virtually raising a hand at a naturalization ceremony, but they have imbued religion with a power it does not have. They suggest that if only more people were religious and allowed to pray before football games or whatever, we would be a far better nation--and, surely, all games would end in a tie. >
KLP's comment was ridiculous. "The RRR God beat the LLL Girly-man God". That's absurd and I'd have thought likely to call down the wrath of somebody on the perpetrator's arrogant presumption.
Saying that Democratic supporters were beaten by the dinkum God is as loony as Osama's beliefs. Where's the humility?
