Tell PBS to stay true to its founding principles

For decades conservative critics have attacked the Public Broadcasting System as having a “liberal bias” – despite the prominence of PBS shows such as William F. Buckley’s Firing Line and Wall Street Week with Fortune magazine.

Now PBS has brought out two new shows, seemingly designed to delight its rightwing critics: Tucker Carlson’s Unfiltered and the Journal Editorial Report - a program hosted by the far-right editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. Both shows represent a significant rightward shift in PBS’s programming at the same time as Bill Moyers’ program Now is being scaled back to a half -hour show after Moyers gives up his post at the end of the year.

At a time when conservative perspectives increasingly dominate the media - and Carlson in particular is a ubiquitous media presence - the decision by PBS to fund and broadcast these programs runs counter to the public broadcasting system's founding mission to "provide a voice for groups in the community that may otherwise be unheard," to serve as "a forum for controversy and debate," and to broadcast programs that "help us see America whole, in all its diversity."

Let PBS know that you're watching its slide from the principles of journalistic integrity that are meant to guide its programming and tell the network that it’ll lose you as a supporter if this new conservative slant isn't reversed.
