Late to the post-election debate, Michael.
You asked why 'morality' was the deciding factor....and the dialogue about nude dancing followed.
You observed: >If something on the TV offends, turn it off or call the show's sponsors. It's not a political issue. It's a personal choice issue.<
For many folks in the Middle America, this is not a choice. When the evening news is peppered with, and bracketed by, ads for Viagra, Levitra, etc., there is not much choice about turning off the program unless one forsakes all national news programs. I know millions of people resent these ads and the exposure to their children. Yes, I know, you disagree. That is not the point. The point is other Americans do NOT have Left Coast cultural values. They do NOT support gay 'marriage.' IMO, this is only part of the cultural divide, but understand, many people DO NOT share the core liberal views of the national media or national ads. Middle America supported Bush over Kerry, in large measure, because of the identity of Kerry with a culturally corrupt Hollywood, Hip-Hop, gay marriage, etc.
JMO on why I think the cultural divide was the deciding factor.
