HEWITT - .... I think I will always admire John Thune for his willingness to come back into the arena after such a brutal loss two years ago, to do the amazingly disciplined, hard work of running against the most powerful Democrat in the country. Jim DeMint and Mel Martinez and David Vitter and John Isaacson as well have brought the one thing the country must have in addition to victory in the war, which is the possibility of fair treatment of judicial nominees in the United States Senate. The new majority of 55 is hopefully a guarantee of a return to past practice, where nominees of good character and intelligence would not be abused because of their religious beliefs. The courts must be depoliticized, and yesterday's result provides that opportunity.
