SLANT POINT - Strategery

Strategy and execution won for Republicans. It reminds me that average, ordinary people simply do not have the experience and know-how to win at the game. Let me show a couple examples.

First, is the Big Loser. Lefty blogger, Kos, raised phenomenal sums of money for hand-picked candidates, but his efforts to build his own army collapsed as every one of his 15 picks lost. All that nearly $550K went to waste.

On the other hand, a group I mentioned a few posts back, Club For Growth, had real success with the candidates they supported, including the biggest upset of the election, Tom Daschle.

Really, I am a prime example of walking the line between the two. Initially I donated money to local candidates in NYC out of hope and desire rather than strategy. They all lost. They didn't even come close.

Around October, I donated and joined the Club For Growth, seeing the highly orchestrated and directed efforts they had to funnel money to the most strategic races to help Republicans and fiscally responsible leaders get elected nationwide.

Kos made the same mistake I initially did, but with so much more dough. Hope and sheer will rarely work in politics, which is essentially a business. I actually applaud Kos' efforts, passion and drive, but I recognize the amatlack of skill burst his bubble inthe end.

In NYC, I am devoted to getting Republicans elected and know the uphill battle we face. Without a coordinated and highly strategic pooling of money, each Republican faces his or her race solo, and that leads to loss after loss. We need to find or create a model like the Club For Growth dedicated to NY/NYC. To that end, I want those who read this to consider how we should spend our money in 2005.

It's nice to help a friend or good guy running for office, but I want to win.
