I guess for many gay people it has reached the point that one must endorse gay marriage or lose their friendship. Many do not understand the reasons why so many people do not want to redefine marriage they way they want to, or why gay marriage isn't a constitutional right, either. "Honoring diversity" and "having compassion for people with different lifestyles" in her NYC context means anything goes, and that is not acceptble to a lot of people, including me. The only reason Rudy Guiliani was elected mayor in the first place was because he promised to be tough on crime, which had gotten too bad for even hardened New Yorkers.
