Actually, "acres" do vote -- each state, no matter how sparsely populated, has a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. Not enough to give either party the election, but enough to make the difference.

This AM I heard a Democrat strategest suggesting that the Dems will try harder for the votes in the Southwest, east of the Rockies.

I would suggest to them that if they want the Hispanic vote, saying nasty things about NAFTA, and promising to penalize companies with factories outside the US, and promising to crack down in immigration are all counter-productive.
