They figure that anyone who rates "moral values" as their concern in voting is a holy roller. They have been taught that believe in moral certainty is to be avoided like the plague.


"Moral values" is also a sort of cow-catcher question, which can pick up both opposition to legalized gay marriage, and the observation that Bush has convictions which the voter shares, while Kerry seems to have few discernible convictions.
