One unheralded advantage of the E.C. is that it curbs massive vote fraud. If 5,000,000 illegal aliens vote in Calif., the damage is limited to Calif's 55 electoral votes instead of skewing a national popular vote by 5,000,000.

Voting "irregularities" occur in every election. The E.C. keeps their effects from spreading beyond state borders.
