I thought about the Pak model. Doesn't work too well, unless it is 2 entirely separate nations, eg Ecotopia and Red Sox Nation. It would better with Canada, if they'll have us.
Keeps most of the professional sports leagues intact, too.East Coast might want any easy link with Asia, which would be locked up by Ecotopia. We'd want a link to Europe, too, without going to the Panama Canal.
The Red Welfare United States probably won't have the largest economy in the world anymore. I'm not sure they would, even if it was just Cal, Wash, and Ore. Those two may be enuf to move Cal back to 4th. Get the stem cell research going, and we may move up to third.
