someone wrote this to me tonite.. and because I think, in their own way they meant well enough, I won't make fun of it.
Hi Box, I was wondering why the aversion toward people of faith on the thread...most particularly Christians. Is being a Christian synonymous with being moronic, unintelligent, retarded etc.? The hate manifested on the thread toward anything Christian is truly appaling- no other faith is spoken of in such vehement terms. You have every right to dislike President Bush and his team or his policies- but to ridicule the name of the Lord and His teachings is something else altogether. I have sent this private message because I believe the thread should dedicate itself mainly to market matters- something it does not do too often lately. Your comments and analyses expressed on other bulletin boards before rejoining SI are most appreciated and do most justice to your keen intellect.
My answer:
I have no aversion to people of faith
but i do have an aversion to your need to express it endlessly, to change the seperation of church and state, to invade my share of the public space with it and without regard to politeness, let alone my permission.....
I could go on.
personally speaking, religion is a very private matter, indeed a sacred one. I wouldn't ever presume to press it upon someone else. If you ask me if I am a christian or anything else, I won't tell you. I have no desire to tell you. It has nothing to do with you or the state.
I totally disagree if you or someone else thinks otherwise.
If you have pamphlets, do not come to my door. Do not presume to tresspass on my privacy and my private domain. Having faith is not a license for rudeness or changing law just to suit you in a democracy.
Re: bush, he ridicules the name of the lord by using it to enhance himself and his message. He is not the Moulah of this country. He is the president of this country and serves everyone in it. You need to think about what you've written to me. Or not as the case may be. But, you want to put your faith in my face in a public place, do not expect me to refrain from taking issue with it as I see fit. What's the problem anyway. with your faith? It must be a very and remarkably thin skinned faith. |
