Redstate has set up a site devoted to stopping Spector from getting the Chair.

NOT SPECTER.COM - A Steel-Fanged Weasel in the Henhouse

I cannot add much to the lengthy expositions on the numerous ways Arlen Specter has worked to undermine conservatism; the dangers associated with adding the words “Judiciary Chair” to the man’s name; or the eloquent calls to action.

But I can add this:

Quickly-gelling conventional wisdom suggests – and might be right – that social conservatives are why the President will be in office until early 2009; why we managed to yank five seats in the Senate from under Democrat noses; why Tom Daschle will be using the word “regret” a tad differently for the next few decades; and why our House majority grew.

Bush took the majority of Catholics in the face of a “Catholic” opponent. He cleaned up on evangelicals. Some good folks looked past their own worries because they cared about the nation’s moral fiber, believing that America is only great so long as she is good.

Don’t they – don’t we – deserve what they voted for? Bush’s conservative judges to get a hearing in the Senate, and a better chance of breaking filibusters?

Don’t they – don’t we – deserve a Judiciary Chair who carries better than a 43 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, who’s a real conservative, or even center-rightist, rather than a play-actor who only pretends to be a conservative in election years? And, I might add, who will retire at the end of this term?

Don’t let him loose among the hens. Keep Specter off the Chair.

The chorus is growing louder:

Laura Ingraham is urging listeners to call Judiciary
CWA reminds Specter to whom he owes his seat.
FRC adds their voice.
Here comes the Draft Grassley movement.
There’s word that Specter may be allowed to stay, provided he pledges to support ALL of the President’s nominations. Frankly, we don’t buy it. 1) Specter wouldn’t swallow that pill, 2) He will still wield tremendous power over scheduling and procedure, and 3) He doesn’t deserve the chance.
