....In the diamond sector, SouthernEra Diamonds, one of the offshoots from the September re-organisation of SouthernEra Resources (the other company to form from the changes is SouthernEra Platinum Corp.), has announced the completion of airborne geophysical surveys. SouthernEra Diamonds has the fourth largest global diamond exploration team and programme behind De Beers, BHP and Rio Tinto, and has the stated ambition of becoming “The Leading Fully Integrated Public Diamond Company”. The company reports that its has completed surveys over three of its seven primary kimberlite projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and ground follow-up of kimberlite pipe-like targets has commenced.
The majority of SouthernEra’s diamond exploration permits in the area (the Kasai province of the DRC) lie with a “kimberlite emplacement corridor”, which the company says is considered to be the world’s most prospective and largest new exploration property. The new Mining Code of the DRC gives permit holders exclusive rights for a period of four years, renewable for two additional two-year periods. The permit holder can, on discovery of an economically viable deposit, automatically apply for a Permit of Exploitation.
