This is what I can see from the other side of the earth. Perhaps people closer to the machines can see more?

They knew about it well in advance this time but did nothing about it.

And the fact that people can vote as many times as they please? No ID required. No voter recognition. Here in "darkest" Africa once we vote our ID is recorded from a bar code on our ID books and placed in a central registry. The voter is also marked with indelible ink on his thumbnail. Further, the vote can be cast at only one station where the voter has been registered and this is arranged beforehand with the authorities. If one's credentials are incorrect one cannot vote. And, of course, we vote on paper and thus the tally can be checked. And still there are mistakes -- but very few. So they tell us.

Anyway, here in SA, the precision of the vote hardly matters because one party receives 70% of total votes cast and no other party receives more than 10%. But in the US where the outcome can differ by 1%, or less, between the two candidates and this can swing the whole election, one would have expected that far more attention would have been given to ensure accuracy.
