Peter, I'll jump in here. The Humble One is probably busy counting his money. ;-)

Is this: SUNW drops 30% connected with this: where INTC takes a larger portion of the traditional main frame
business; a win/win situation.
?

Sun's demise at the hands of Wintel has been predicted for some time. However, they have been very resilient in moving to different space with their products and have kept earnings rising. They're probably all right until Merced comes out (late '98 or 1H '99).

I haven't looked at/researched attainable bus speed improvement over time for Rambus/Intel.

SVGI? Did you mean SGI? SVGI is a small chip company.

Heat dissipation is just one factor "blocking" chip speeds. Geometries (gate lengths, line widths and subsequent RC time constants limit speed also). Finer geometries help both situations.

Gallium Arsenide? No. It'll be Silicon for another long, long time. Gallium just can't get the gate/transistor densities required. Nowhere near. The big chip companies, like Intel, TI and IBM, I'll bet are not even looking at Gallium. Not to worry, Intel will get to 1 GHz and beyond with Silicon.

BTW, what is your point?

Tony
