Read Kenneth Davis's FDR, The New Deal Years for a wonderful and well written history of the New Dealers steps to create a national old age pension, the result of which was the Social Security System. They created a masterful system, but never counted on a future generation having no offspring, so on that account a fatal flaw was incorporated from the beginning and made much worse by LBJ and later day politicians expanding benefits.

The generation without a sufficient number of offspring (the Boomers) should do the moral thing and ask for no more than they put in during their working life. The system might be able to supply that or close to that. But for a person to receive more than they contributed, thats just stealing from the younger generation, just plain stealing.
