You know, when Dan was interviewing for his clerking job after second year law, he had an offer from a Roanoke firm. Since he was inundated with offers from Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, (I drew the line at NYC and DC-- just too much of a Southern girl) we didn't even look at it. Places like Roanoke was for the lower half of the class. How condescending and ugly was that. Not to mention Stupid. Now I would love to live in Va. Lexington real estate has soared because of the horse center. We probably can't afford to retire there. I talked to my brother the other day and he seems to be doing well. When I asked about their son, he said he's going to be ok. He's a good ol boy. He lives in Rockbridge County, has a Harley that he roams the mountains with, hunts, fishes, and works as little as possible-- just enough to pay the bills. And it occurs to me that maybe he has it together better than we do. |
