Bill,

I know the early "WINTELs" and Macs weren't really "equivalent." But that was the common perception among the less informed. Anyway, that misperception was just one reason among many that the PC gained the large market share that it did, in spite of the fact it was clunky and hard to use for most folks.

Today they still aren't "equivalent" in their ease of use, stability and overall quality. The Mac continues to win on those scores. OTOH, the nod goes to the PC for the size of its software library, although all basic functions can be performed on both platforms. Still, there's are a number of niches where specialized software is available only on PCs. I doubt that will change any time soon.
