Then why is big business so eager to eat government pork (socialism)? Socialism is only given a bad conotation when it is directed at improving middle and lower class lives. When socialism is practiced by the rich, via their corporations (aka corporate welfare), it isn't questioned. Why don't these mega-corporate farms give up all govt. subsidies? Why don't the auto companies reject research funds? Why doesn't the military industrial complex stop lobbying for money? Socialism is only bad when it's directed at the poor.

I'll tell you a good example of socialism. In my state the passenger trains were utterly a mess when I was growing up in the 1970s. That was when they were under private ownership, and neglected for years. The state government took them over in 1980, and since then they've improved drmatically. The state has redone the entire network, from tracks/trains to stations, and it's state of the art. They've even connected parts of the network that were proposed as connections decades ago. A lot better than when under private ownership. It is an example of socialism that works in our society, not at all destructive, in fact it has improved our transportation network tremendously.
