kholt .. Why those deductions? Historical precedence .. To influence/facilitate desirable behaviour .. Fairness .. I'm sure there are other worthwhile deductions or perhaps none would be better .. I don't really expect Congress to simplify our tax system in any meaningful way .. too many accountants/tax consultants would lobby against any changes .. At a minimum I'd like too see a flat tax rate applied to all income regardless of source above a tax-exempt base amount supplemented with a modest national sales tax on consumption excluding food and clothing .. What are your ideas ?? Triff ..
