Look, you're the one who used the word "cosmopolitan." My understanding of the word as it is commonly used these days is that it means "sophisticated, conversant with many areas of the world."
If you meant it in any way other than "sophisticated, conversant with many areas of the world," then say so.
If you meant it in that way, I am asking what makes you think that sophisticated people who are conversant with many areas of the world prefer Kerry to Bush? Or preferred Gore to Bush? Or preferred Clinton to Dole? Or preferred Clinton to Bush's father? Because the vast majority of these people voted for the same ticket, Democrat vs. Republican.
What is it about sophisticated people, in your mind, that makes them prefer Democrats?

BTW, I ate sauerbraten at StadtKafee in Front Royal and came home with some Caerphilly and some Wensleydale from the British Cafe in Aldie. I actually enjoy being told that I am an ignorant fundamentalist fool, it makes me think my party will win many, many elections going forward by people who are too smart to understand why they lose elections.
