Well, Elroy, that is a common apologists argument to say that the Bible is violent in some parts. However, Christians are mostly focused on the New Testament, which is a product of Jesus' teaching and are decidedly non-violent in the extreme. "Turn the other cheek" comes to mind.
In addition, there were indeed periods of time when Christian religions like Catholicism espoused violence, such as the Crusades and the Inquisition, but that was centuries ago. Islam is violent today! So although Christian and Jewish religions have evolved, Islam is a throwback to the 5th century. A good Muslim would abide by Sharia law and practice polygamy, which would include underage girls. In addition, a good Muslim would practice Jihad against infidels with two options available to the infidel: convert to Islam or be conquered. Why would a good Muslim do these things? Because Muhammed tells him to in the Qu'ran and Muslim Clerics teach their people to do this in their Mosques and Madrasahs. The thing we all need to get through our heads is that this is not "fringe". It is mainstream and it is a cancer that needs to be dealt with.
I agree that there are other factors at play in the Middle East which contribute to Islam's archaic, barbaric tenets. However, those excuses are very similar to us saying the that a murderer in the U.S. should be excused because he grew up in a poor neighborhood in L.A. and was beaten by his father when he was young. I don't buy it. We all make choices. If those choices result in a crime, then it should be punished. If an entire culture or religion makes choices that directly threaten Western Civilization, then that culture or religion needs to be crushed. It's either that or we will find ourselves under Islam's thumb, just as we very nearly found ourselves living under a Nazi regime.
Do you think you really would be openminded enough to live under Sharia law as an infidel? I know, I sure as hell wouldn't. And I can guarantee you most American women wouldn't. |
