A lot of things had a particular meaning for centuries such as slavery, segregation, women's suffrage etc.; that did not make them right.

What does that have to do with anything?

Besides, what skin is it off your back what two consenting people do.

I could care less. Bush could care less. He has supported civil unions. He just doesn't want to go off willy-nilly redefining a term that has been in existence for centuries which will have the effect of upending the law dating back to the Common Law. Totally sensible and rational. He also believes the states must decide what rights a civil union conveys on their own; which makes sense, since the current law surrounding marriage are determined on a state level.

This is just liberal tripe you guys are moaning about.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't know of anyone, including Bush, who is wanting to do otherwise.

Apparently, you all only have sex for procreation; for the rest of us, its for recreation and lovemaking as well. So back off!

Where did THIS come from? What does this have to do with the subject? Please explain how this remark has any place in this conversation whatosever.

And for the record, I believe conservative gay Republicans refused to endorse Bush over this issue.

I believe some did, as well. There are not huge numbers of conservative gay Republicans, however.
