Christians are mostly focused on the New Testament, which is a product of Jesus' teaching and are decidedly non-violent in the extreme. "Turn the other cheek" comes to mind.
So how do you explain the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the wars between England and Europe when Henry split the Church of England off from Catholicism, Nazis were Christians eliminating Jews, and a better historian than me could go on and on. I think that you will find that before the advent of secularism in Europe (around French Revolution time, late 1700's, not 5th century), numerous wars had Christianity as their basis, and the ones turning their cheeks were the losers of the war.
A good Muslim would abide by Sharia law and practice polygamy, which would include underage girls.
This is not a threat to Americans.
a good Muslim would practice Jihad against infidels with two options available to the infidel: convert to Islam or be conquered.
One doesn't "practice" jihad like one practices baseball, there are situations where Islamic religious teachings tells Muslims to fight, and their are similar situations in Christianity and probably Judaism.
I agree that there are other factors at play in the Middle East which contribute to Islam's archaic, barbaric tenets.
I would argue that their are lots of archaic, barbaric tenets in the Middle East which produce the extremists you oppose, and they happen to be Muslims. Proof that it is not the religion per se is evidenced by the normal, peaceful, successful lives numerous Muslims lead in the US every day. The problem is the ME, not the Islamic religion.
Do you think you really would be openminded enough to live under Sharia law as an infidel?
I live in a Middle Eastern country, am surrounded daily by Muslims, and its incredibly safe and secure and all that good stuff.
Finally, I would be sure you are highly knowledgeable about Islam before spouting off your diatribe. Your premise is fairly objectionable and offensive, so I would make sure you have pretty good ground to stand on. I'm no Islamic scholar, so I'll plead general ignorance about the subject, but my experience with thousands of Muslims is that they are the same as me and me, and sometimes you. |
