Another aspect which is important is that Java will be awesome on Rhapsody - Unix with a human (Mac) interface - the Mac is already a better platform for Java development (ala CodeWarrior). Couple that combination with multiprocessing using Motorola PPC chips - which already have at 100 MgHz lead in performance over Intel, or future generations of Intel or other chips, and you have a credible threat to Windoze dominance. Open systems will ultimately break the Wintel hegemenony. This won't happen overnight. Java is just the tip of a giant iceberg. I submit that adoption of NT in organizations from existing Win95 or Win3.1 has been much slower than expected. The fact that this thread is even discussing this means a new meme has been created. That meme is "Windoze may not necessarily rule". Add that to a P.E. of 50 for microsoft and you may have a recipe for trouble short term.

Cheers
