Re: The author is not some radical neocon but a principle in NRO and major player in Washington. They are specifically targeting Europe.

The NRO is a Judeocon mouthpiece... As for the Bush administration targeting Europe, well, I believe the main, if unspoken, source of animosity between the US and Europe stems from the growing economic imbalance between them... Up to now, the Transatlantic trade has been the cornerstone of the global economy, outweighing all other trade flows (between Asia and the US or between South America and the EU, etc.).

Now we must keep in mind that trade between the US and Europe is not just about buying and selling stuff from one area from/to the other... It also involves mergers and acquistions --like Daimler-Benz taking over Chrysler in 1998(?) or GM bailing out Opel in Germany back in 1929... Americans are comfortable at being bought out by Europeans, however, they are not gung-ho about being taken over by corporate China --clue:

That's the dirty little secret that lies at the root of the US-EU antagonism: corporate Europe is lagging and can't keep up with the Transpacific trade --which in turn gives the jitters to the US Old Guard aka Bilderberg... A sizable section of corporate America doesn't want to see Europe displaced by China/Asia as the US's main trading partner yet they can't do anything about it...
