You have well reasoned points. The one wild card I see is that many people will join the party that can give them stuff for free. The big government compassionate conservatism may win the hearts of the greedy.

Will the conservative base tolerate the increase in government spending and debt? Where was the apex of the last liberal swing? Have we reached to apex of the conservative swing?

It sounds like you think that we have reached the apex of conservatism, and the pendulum is swinging back. I am not going to disagree with you, merely question the analysis. I suspect we are still swinging right.

Partisan Democrats have been desperately trying to blunt the impact of their immoral behavior by falsely accusing Republicans of ethical lapses. How many thousands of posts have the lefties made claiming that President Bush was less than truthful? When the voters of this land have identified Democrats as the party of liars, they must try something to deflect the accurate portrayal.

The bottom line is that we agree that Democrats will not learn the needed lessons. You may think that the pendulum will swing back to them on its own. I suspect that Democrats will have to moderate their tone and become less polarized to get the momentum to start shifting back to the left.
