The info at your link confirms what I said:

"The BAD News: FDA has banned Red Yeast Rice Extract
Anyone currently selling standardized Red Yeast Rice Extract is doing so illegally. The FDA has banned all sales of standardized Red Yeast Rice Extract on the grounds that it is identical to the prescription drug lovastatin / mevinolin."

(Note: I believe Big Pharma not only feared the loss of billions of dollars in sales to this natural product... potentially their patents on statins could have been challenged also --- because of the very long history of use of this natural product.)

"The GOOD News: Octacosanol Replacement Now Available
Octacosanol, a policosanol (sugar cane wax alcohols) of eight alcohols has been demonstrated as effective as red yeast rice extract, but without the side effect profile. More information follows."

Yep, this naturally occurring sugar cane wax-alcohol has a very good reputation for cholesterol-lowering as well... wonder how long before Big Pharma complaints move the FDA to ban it as well? (Even though I doubt most of the patented statins could stand up to the safety profile of Octacosanol....)
