U.S. August transportation index down 0.8%

WASHINGTON (AFX) -- The transportation services index fell 0.8 percent in August to 124.5, the Transportation Department said Monday. The decline from July's record high is the third drop in four months. Year-on-year, the index has risen 6.7 percent. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the freight index fell 1 percent to 125.6, while the passenger index fell 0.4 percent to 122.3 in August
