I can't imagine how civil unions granting same sex couples the same legal and financial protections as married couples would be a problem. As far as the "confusion", any minority needs to be aware that their lifestyle or presence may be a source of discomfort to many and should act accordingly. In other words, no "in your face" behavior. One needs to respect others the sensitivities of others. This applies to whites in black neighborhoods, gays in Iowa - everywhere... Regarding toddlers and temper tantrums... hehehe... do you have gays mixed up with Rush Limbaugh? The gay community often acts like toddlers with their temper tantrums demanding national attention to their "wants". They're entitled to that lifestyle, but not to unreasonable accommodation by everyone else.
