Milestones: Rarely in my experience has AMD released such a potentially far reaching announcement as today's revolutionary MirrorBit release

(thanks to Jozef and cruzbay)

The two other such fundamental and potentially far reaching AMD releases that I recall that were of this scope and potential magnitude were:

i) Dirk Meyer's June dinner meeting when he delineated the completed architectural design of Spry Athy in June 1999, and

ii) AMD's delineation of Opteron tecnology in April 2003.

Seems to me that MirrorBit is a little further along in its development today with this 3rd "company fundamental" release than were either Spry Athy or Opteron at the time of those "company fundamental" releases.

We all know how Spry Athy and Opteron changed the cpu landscape. The impact of MirrorBit on the flash landscape remains to be seen, no doubt. But the odds of success for MirrorBit, given the level of MirrorBit development and acceptance already in place, appear, at the minimum, greater than the odds, according to pundits, at the time of the Spry Athy and/or the Opteron releases above!
