Just adding another viewpoint and not disagreeing as to fact that Arctic ice sheet is melting, but just the why.

Warmer than normal water in Gulf of Alaska, some arctic areas may be influencing the ice pack. IF so, these ocean water temperature changes are subject to cycles, some of which are fairly long term (shorter term examples, El Nino/La Nina) and it is an error to extrapolate the current ice melt too far into the future.

JMH weather buff opinion, I could be wrong. OTOH, my winter forecast this year is partially based on the above. So an extremely cold winter relative to normal from central Mid Western to Eastern US could be an indication I may be on to something.

Time will tell...
