Remember that this month Sarkozy leaves Finance Ministry to head UMP (Chirac's Party), from where he intends to make a bid for Presidency. Most of what he says these days is intended to position himself for higher positions of power, rather than to make a statement as the Finance Minister of France.

Over the last couple of months, he has been cozying up to various countries one by one, then making his opinions known on a number of EU issues like his opposition to Turkey's bid to join the EU.

Ambitious little man. People are so hungry for change in France (and not really towards Le Pen) that he just might become le President de la Republique - despite his conservative side, Hungarian immigrant father, aversion to alcohol (a president who doesn't drink wine! in France!) and his glamorous former top-model wife who publicly prides herself on not having a single drop of French blood in her veins -g-
