Years ago, we had mutton at a lovely, rustic restaurant in Salisbury and it was terrible-- both the mutton and the entire meal. The meat was overcooked and stringy and tough. The meal was traditional English fare and I seem to remember blah peas and some kind of bland potatoes. There was a weird pudding for dessert-- it may have been spotted dick, which explains why I repressed the memory.
