hina's power demand surges, supply still short
ZHENGZHOU - China's demand for power will continue to grow this year and into next year, while supply will remain tight, the State Power Grid said.
China's electricity consumption is expected to grow 10.5% and demand reach 2,391 billion kWh in 2005.
In the autumn working conference on analysis and forecast for power market held in Luoyang recently, the State Power Grid said that the nation's electricity consumption will increase 14.5% this year, while the demand will reach 2,162.5 billion kWh, a net increase of 273 billion kWh. China generated 1,571.3 billion kWh in the first nine months of this year, rising 14.92% year on year.
The power supply and demand situation in China has four characteristics:
# The demand for China has kept rising, and the load has kept reaching new records continuously, but the load growth of all main power grids is commonly lower than the demand growth; # The number of power blackouts will increase, with the area covered expanding; # Influenced by industrial structure, the elasticity coefficient of power is once again bigger than 1; # Coal and water supply has become an important factor that influences power production.
