That is such a cute story- and I think it is reality and human nature sort of miniaturized.

Yesterday, a very old friend from my childhood came through Dallas and we got together. He was on his way back from Florida where he and his daughters had gone to scatter his wife's ashes. It has been four years since she died at the age of 50 after a seven year battle with breast cancer, and he has gone on with his life, but you could still feel under his wonderful humor and his acceptance, a great sadness about it. As we talked about death, and my brother's wife, and how he went immediately from the funeral to work, my friend said he did the same thing. You just - do it. You get back fast because it is the best way to get through. And the moments when the sadness hit you become less frequent as time passes.

Last night I got home at ten and there was a Texas roach in the front hall, waiting for me. I chased him with a paper towel and tried to grab him and jammed a finger against the floorboard. Am in pain.
Typing without that finger. Am off now for a four hour rehearsal which I will play with only nine fingers. I doubt anyone will notice though.
