Mindmeld, Also, I'd trash the Old Testament. It's hopelessly outdated. The teachings of Jesus are more peaceful and still apply today. Be careful of that. Jesus said during the Sermon on the Mount: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." biblegateway.com In other words, Jesus puts the Old Testament in the proper context, one that places us in a position where redemption, not works, is the only way to heaven.
