We have a special SF unit for special personnel targets.

I believe many of the 1,000 sent recently are working with Kurds. The rest are likely leading the way into the current fight.

Some A Teams are certainly escorting the USAF Air Commandos in on the ground and behind the lines to direct the "danger close" air strikes for our ground forces. Others provide sniper teams and other special skills.

The 10th Special Forces Group has a long history of both fighting and preparing for urban warfare in Eastern Europe. Many of the original 10th members were born in Eastern Europe and fought with partisans in WWII. Some of those old-timers have been hired to be SF instructors. The entire group has been receiving local language training. Most of the members were on the ground for the initial attack to take down saddam. This SF group is particularly well skilled for the current tasks.

We want to attack point targets. The only other option is to level the city.

When I hear and read about both the numerous Artillery TOTs (coordinated multi-battery Time On Target strikes) and near continuous USAF fast-movers striking targets with pin point munitions, well in advance of our attacking ground forces, I know the A Teams have penetrated deeply and are getting the job done. Both techniques are point target killers and require an observer to be effective.

Mass uncoordinated artillery barrages and B-52 carpet bombing would indicate we have not been successful in forward penetration of the battlefield. We are seeing none of that.

We will not hear much about SF wins publicly for a while (maybe not for a year), but I assure you the night belongs to SF and they are stacking up bad guys every night all night long.

The terrorists have accomplished their goal. They are getting exactly what they wanted, an opportunity to fight American soldiers. I only hope we let a few live to go home and tell their brothers how much fun they had.
