The existence of soul defies scientific method and always will.
Then "soul" becomes simply a preferred PERSONAL belief. And your PERSONAL belief is no more valid than that of another person. And for the same reasons that you have no right to force your personal religious beliefs on others, you would have no right to force your beliefs about abortion.

Our only accurate evidence of soul enmeshment is self-evidence.
What "self-evidence"? That I am conscious? Can feel pain, hurt, joy, disappointment? Yeah. And I am willing to make the assumption you can too and have just as much right to exist and to freedom and independence as I.

But that doesn't mean either of us has a "soul".

you a phantom laz?
No, but some wish I were. :-)

I have read scripture that captures the event but even that doesn't translate into something that could be turned into a precise legal definition.
Which "scripture"? OT? NT? Quran? Kama Sutra? "Scripture" is not evidence.

Until we have finite evidence of the exact terms under which a fetus becomes a human being, I am begging out of the debate on abortion.
As am I. Those who wish this debate are welcome to it. All I have ever seen come of it are snarling, much heat, and no light.

Except to say that we know killing a baby is infanticide and we are fairly certain that a baby is born with a soul. My guess is sometime near or after the first trimester ensoulment occurs.
Speculative. But interesting because here you cross swords with the Christian fundamentalists who say it occurs at conception and destroying a fertilized egg, an embryo, or a fetus are murder.

I suspect late term abortions would also qualify but I have no way to prove it
I have no intention of arguing for late term abortion except in unusual circumstances where a serious fetal abnormality does not appear until then or where a mother's life is in danger if birth occurs.

If I am going to err at all, I would rather err on the side of caution but that is my choice.
Caution on whose side? Abortions occurred in the US before Roe v. Wade. The problem was that often they weren't done in aseptic conditions by trained personnel and killed both the baby and the mother.

Have Peace.
