I think the focus on left/right God-fearin' evangelicals vs the rest is all off base. Bush used fear plain and simple - and he didn't need to turn the screws on that very much - many folks remain scared and angry but sadly also largely uninformed and unwilling to dig for answers.

So it was easy for Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz et al to hoodwink the nation.

The democrats never did perfect reducing the tale of the deception into a simple "elevator speech" - the sort of quick, sharp narrative that can sum up a complex subject in a few quick sentences.

So four more years - oh well. Eventually more facts will come to the surface; perhaps a Congressional Inquiry will strike up. With luck enough will be obvious, like the peeling of the onion layers during Watergate, that opinion will shift and hard.

Perhaps wishful thinking.
