I agree with your sentiments regarding computer based tools. Where I think that the individual investor has an advantage is that we can buy what for us is significant amounts of stock in small and micro cap stocks, but is miniscule for institutional investors.

The big guys can also identify these stocks, but need huge quantities of these stocks to make it worthwhile for their portfolios. As soon as they try to buy large chunks of small or micro cap companies, the stock price soars because the purchase is a large part of the available float.

A similar dilemna applies to selling portfolios for the big institutional investors. If they try to dump a large holding, the stock tanks.

Just my two cents.
