I don't think that the statements expressed in his article show contempt for and estrangement from more than a small fraction of Kerry's voters. He doesn't express disdain for Democrats in general, merely for those who are calling for secession and those who think that most or all of the voters for Bush "are simply hate-filled bigots who have no place in America".
