Please note that "off the run" bonds trade at a price determined by the various factors affecting their value that I have mentioned.

For an informal understanding of market arcana, you might read the books written by Frank Partnoy or Victor Niederhoffer, among others.

I'm not able to point you to good academic material on the Net regarding reserves, and I don't have the patience to provide the equivalent of a graduate level finance lecture on the subject here. Perhaps a local banker would be able to assist you in this matter.
